Kilsby Drift – The start of the build

After a year or 3 of planning and procrastination the kit is coming together, I have the baseboard tops now, the platform for resting the boards on in the garage and the first batch of FiNetraX has arrived.

I’ve been working on the base in the garage and have 5.2M of available space. The board lengths are two at 1.2M and two at 1.4M they all came home in the car so should be fine to get them into the car for shows. 5.2M is around 17 feet so I’ve been tweaking the plan for both the boards and the track

I’ve ordered my first batch of FiNetrax https://www.britishfinescale.com/category-s/1846.htm from BritishFineScale and have started with the easy part of putting the straight sections together. The first piece required a bit of thinking but not that complicated. Must remember to file the ends of each piece of track and keep the end sleeper piece once started free to put back in the jig as the track slides through really easy in that process. I’ve had a quick look at the points and downloaded the instructions. Slightly different to C&L OO points which I have tried before in that the base is provided. Once I have a couple of these done I’ll include some photo’s

Next item to get ordered is the masts, going for brass and will be using N Brass , https://www.nbrasslocos.co.uk/ncatwc.html for the WCML Catenary and I’ve been working through Google Earth to work out how many I need. The notes on the site are for every 60-70CM I think I may reduce that a little to get a few more in, I’m thinking around 4 a board but will test that once I have made a few and have the first couple of boards ready for testing.

Waiting for a couple of nice days now to get on with making the baseboards
